Collagen & Elastin Treatments

Does This Sound Like You?

You are starting to notice fine lines, a loss of firmness, or skin that does not bounce back the way it once did.

You want to look rested and refreshed without a frozen, overfilled, or "done" appearance.

You have tried topical products and professional facials, but the results feel superficial or short-lived.

You prefer treatments that work with your body’s biology rather than against it.

You want a physician-led approach that connects what is happening on your skin to what is happening inside your body.

How Collagen & Elastin Treatments Work

Collagen and elastin are produced in the dermis by specialized cells called fibroblasts. Collagen provides the scaffolding that gives skin its thickness and structural strength, while elastin gives skin the ability to stretch, recoil, and resist gravity. Together they account for much of the visible difference between youthful skin and aging skin.

Production of both proteins peaks in your twenties and declines gradually from there. Research shows that chronologically aged skin has substantially less collagen than young skin, and that functional elastic fibers also decrease over time and under sun exposure.

External factors such as UV damage, smoking, sleep deficits, nutrient gaps, chronic inflammation, and hormonal shifts (particularly after menopause) accelerate the loss.

Collagen-stimulating treatments do not add collagen directly. They create a controlled biological signal, whether through microscopic wound healing, targeted heating of the dermis, or the release of your body’s own growth factors, that activates fibroblasts to produce new, organized collagen and elastin over the weeks and months that follow.

Results build gradually as the tissue remodels, which is why the most natural outcomes come from a structured, sequenced plan rather than a single treatment.

Microneedling

Microneedling, also known as percutaneous collagen induction therapy, uses a grid of fine, sterile needles to create thousands of precisely controlled micro-channels in the skin.

These tiny injuries trigger the body’s natural wound-healing cascade, drawing platelets and growth factors to the area and signaling fibroblasts to produce fresh collagen and elastin in the dermis.

Because the outer layer of skin remains largely intact, healing is relatively quick and the risk of pigment changes stays low across a wide range of skin tones, from very fair to deeply pigmented.

Microneedling is useful for fine lines, mild skin laxity, acne scarring, enlarged pores, and uneven texture. A series of treatments spaced three to six weeks apart generally produces the most visible change. In some cases, radiofrequency microneedling is used to add targeted heat in the deeper dermis for a stronger tightening effect.

Sofwave Skin Lifting

Sofwave uses synchronous ultrasound parallel beam technology to deliver precise thermal energy to the mid-dermis, the layer where the majority of your collagen and elastin sits.

The energy passes through the surface of the skin and targets the structural layer directly, triggering a controlled remodeling response that rebuilds collagen and gradually lifts lax tissue over the following three to six months.

Sofwave is FDA-cleared for lifting the eyebrow, submental (under-chin), and neck areas and for improving the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Non-Ablative Laser Therapy

Non-ablative fractional lasers heat columns of tissue within the dermis while leaving the surface of the skin intact. The thermal stimulus prompts new collagen synthesis and gradual remodeling of the existing collagen matrix, which improves skin texture, tone, and fine wrinkles without the prolonged downtime of ablative resurfacing.

This category of treatment is a strong option for patients who want meaningful, year-round improvement, including those with deeper skin tones who may be poor candidates for more aggressive ablative methods.

Tixel

Tixel is a thermo-mechanical fractional device that uses a heated titanium tip to deliver precise thermal energy into the skin.

Unlike laser-based treatments, there is no light absorption involved, which makes it a gentler option for delicate areas such as around the eyes. Tixel stimulates collagen remodeling, softens fine lines, and refines texture with minimal downtime and a strong safety profile across a wide range of skin types.

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) and Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF)

PRP and PRF are biologic treatments prepared from a small sample of your own blood. A short centrifugation process concentrates the platelets and growth factors that your body uses to repair injured tissue.

When injected into the skin or applied during microneedling, these growth factors signal fibroblasts to produce new collagen and elastin, improve dermal density, and enhance overall skin quality.

PRF is a slower, anticoagulant-free preparation that produces a fibrin scaffold for a more prolonged release of growth factors. Because both are derived from your own blood, the risk of allergic reaction is negligible.

Biostimulatory Volume Restoration

In certain areas, visible aging has less to do with surface texture and more to do with lost structural volume in the deeper layers of skin and subcutaneous tissue.

Biostimulatory treatments such as Renuva work by prompting your body to regenerate its own tissue at the treatment site rather than simply filling space with a foreign material. These treatments are used selectively and integrated with surface-level collagen work so that lift, volume, and skin quality improve together.

Inside and Out: Why Skin Reflects What Is Happening Underneath

Topical and procedural treatments are only one half of collagen health. The production of new collagen and elastin depends on factors that sit below the surface of the skin, including hormonal balance, nutrient sufficiency, sleep quality, and systemic inflammation.

Estrogen directly supports collagen synthesis, which is one reason many women notice a rapid shift in skin firmness during perimenopause and the first few years after menopause. Protein, vitamin C, zinc, and copper are required cofactors for collagen and elastin assembly.

Chronic high blood sugar accelerates glycation, which stiffens existing collagen and makes it more prone to breakdown. At Halo, these drivers are treated as part of the same conversation as your aesthetic plan, not as a separate track.

Schedule a Consultation

If you would like to explore which collagen-stimulating treatments are the right fit for your skin, goals, and broader health picture, a consultation is the place to start. Our team will walk through a structured assessment, review what has been tried before, and outline a sequenced plan with realistic expectations for results and maintenance.

Safety

Most collagen-stimulating treatments cause some combination of redness, mild swelling, pinpoint bleeding, or warmth at the treatment site. These effects typically resolve within a few hours to a few days depending on the modality, and most patients are able to return to normal activities quickly.

Stronger non-ablative laser or radiofrequency sessions may cause more pronounced redness or light flaking for three to seven days. PRP and PRF injections may cause temporary bruising at injection sites. Post-treatment sun protection is essential to preserve results and minimize the risk of pigment changes.

Contact the clinic if you experience unusual persistent redness, prolonged swelling, blistering, or any sign of infection at the treatment site. Seek urgent care immediately for severe swelling, spreading redness with fever, sudden vision changes, or any symptoms suggesting a serious allergic reaction.

FAQs

How long before I see results?

Some improvement in skin texture and hydration is often visible within the first few days to weeks, but collagen and elastin remodeling is a slower process. Most patients notice meaningful change between two and six months after starting a structured treatment series, with continued improvement for up to a year as the new tissue matures.

How long do results last?

Results vary by modality, baseline skin condition, age, genetics, and lifestyle. For most energy-based and microneedling protocols, a year of steady improvement is followed by a slower, ongoing decline that mirrors normal aging. Periodic maintenance sessions, typically one or two per year, help preserve the gains.

Are these treatments safe for darker skin tones?

Many collagen-stimulating treatments are safe across a wide range of skin tones, from very fair to deeply pigmented. Microneedling, Sofwave, non-ablative fractional lasers, and Tixel are generally well tolerated because they avoid broad damage to the surface of the skin. Your consultation will include an individualized assessment of pigment risk and device selection.

Is there downtime?

Downtime depends on the treatment. Microneedling and PRP typically produce redness for one to two days. Sofwave has essentially no social downtime. Non-ablative laser sessions may cause redness and light flaking for three to seven days. We plan treatments around your schedule whenever possible.

Can these treatments be combined?

Yes. In many cases a combined plan produces better results than any single treatment on its own. Microneedling with PRP, for example, uses both mechanical collagen induction and growth-factor signaling. Sequencing matters, though, and combinations should be planned by a clinician who understands how each treatment interacts with the others.

Do oral collagen supplements help?

Oral collagen peptides have some supporting evidence for skin hydration and modest improvement in elasticity, particularly with consistent daily use. They are a reasonable adjunct to in-office treatments but should not be relied on as the primary driver of visible change.

What about sun protection afterward?

Sun protection is not optional. UV exposure is one of the fastest ways to break down newly produced collagen and elastin. Daily broad-spectrum sunscreen and sensible sun behavior will protect your investment in treatment.
